Just a quick update.

Our policeman investigator, named, Lawrence, texted us last night and wanted to come today with his girlfriend, Doreen, so that we could explain things to her. We gave them the same discussion as we had given Lawrence already. Doreen is really quite shy and quiet but she seemed to understand. They committed to go to church tomorrow morning.

I helped organize some things from one of the containers that Reeve, Lolly, and CC brought over from SLC. There have been a lot of people out there working on it most of the day. I think they have one container done. There are a lot of good medical supplies as well as numerous other things. It is a big job. It will help a lot of people here in Zimbabwe. They had one empty container and put all the medical supplies into it and then sorted the other things and put them back into the first container.

We have talks to give tomorrow in Kadoma and are putting finishing touches on them. We are also invited and need to leave soon to go watch Ishmael play a squash game against the #2 player in Zimbabwe. That should be good. Ishmael is #1 in his age category. They are really quite amazing to watch. We are also invited to go watch Bro. and Sis. Sharp's daughter ballroom dance with the Bell's son. They are super good too and won all the competitions in SA recently and are now headed to Europe somewhere to compete. I don't know that we can
get to both events though. (The squash is closer so... we will try that first).

We went to Sharp's earlier so that Elder Bullock could do a polygamy interview for a lady who wants to get baptized. She works there. While we waited we were given juice, potato chips, small pancakes with syrup and when we left we were given a box of wonderful chocolates
(which we aren't eating - but Mayfields will enjoy them for us!). Sharps weren't home but the domestic help were treating us well. Nice!

Love to all, The Bullocks

Logan’s birthday today! Happy Birthday.

First thing this morning a lady came in. She got pregnant and got HIV (the baby died) but she was shunned by her family and also the father of the baby. She was in tears and wanting some help. It is hard to know if their stories are for real sometimes but sometimes it is better to give them the benefit of the doubt. I gave her a few things and hope it will help her out.

Pastor Wonder came to see us first thing this morning too and wanted some things to take back to his people. We gave him a bundle of clothes, bag of shoes, blankets, soap, and a few hygiene kits. We trust that he will give them to those who need the help. Before he left another man, Pastor Zachariah, came asking for help for two families. He had a list of their ages and gender. He came with a wheel barrow to take it home in – he didn’t live too far away. Then a lady and her child came – asking for money (which we don’t give). We did however notice that her shoes were not very good so we offered her a pair of shoes and some sandals for the child. Gave her sandals, shorts and headband from container

Tabeth then came and was hoping we can help her with some items to assist some of the people that she tries to help. We will see what we can do. We had a couple more phone calls from others who want our help with items. By this time though we were feeling a little overwhelmed with it all. It is great to have the container here but I think our greatest challenge is ahead of us – trying to figure out where it should go and how!!

One lady, Lettie, who is requesting help for her orphanage wants to come in tomorrow. We are not going to give to her as we have found out that they were seen selling food that Rob Spencer gave to the orphanage. He has cut her off after giving a lot of food to her for over 4 years. We already told her that we know about that and are not giving to her either. We had a member of the branch presidency from Enterprise come in with a list of names that we had requested he get together for us. He had previously asked us about helping some orphans and widows who live in their area. We feel good about doing that and arranged to take some things out there next Monday for distribution. He will organize it at the church yard. There will be about 100, so we will see how that goes.

President Neild called and ask if we would drive out to Howard Hospital about 1 ¼ hours away in the rural area. We went there this afternoon and met with Dr. Thistle. He is from Toronto and has lived in Zimbabwe for 15 years doctoring at this hospital. He has some doctors come now and then from the U.S. and Canada and spend a few weeks helping out. There are 3 doctors at the hospital and I think he said 40 nurses. It was old and run down but functional. They can certainly use anything we can give – blankets, hygiene kits, newborn kits, soap, etc. You just can’t even imagine the crowded conditions and the line ups for help – he said the lines were short today! Dr. Thistle is taking next month off and will be visiting Canada. He will be in Calgary and mentioned that he will be visiting at Peter Lougheed Hospital. (small world sometimes)
We saw this on our drive to Howard hospital. 'Tis the season for burning grass - I don't understand why the fires don't get away on them.

Lots of orange groves on the way to Bendura

Yard of hospital - generator used a lot!

Waiting room at Howard Hospital (not a lot today!)

They need wheelchairs

On our way home from the hospital we came across a group of ladies and some children. They were selling their buckets of sweet potatoes on the side of the dusty road. I said, ‘let’s stop and give them each a hygiene kit’. So Jim stopped and backed up to where they were. We gave each of the 13 ladies a kit and they were so appreciative. That was really the highlight of our whole day!!

Monday

This is the man that was excommunicated about 4 years ago that Jim got to baptize.

Brother Abel Mhandu & Elder Bullock

President Tizipai, Sister & Brother Mhandu, Elder Bullock, President Zaronga - Kadoma Branch

First thing this morning we gave out a wheelchair to a lady with cerebal palsy. She hasn't had a chair since November. She called here and Elder Bullock told her that if she could come right now we had a chair for her. She wept when she saw the chair and was so grateful to get it. What a rewarding experience it was to be able to give that to her.

Well our container has arrived on site and the contents have been transferred to our storage container. We sent some things to the Newland's Clinic down the street and we are still full. The transfer went well and we are tired!! It is good to have that done -- now for the distribution! President Neild helped us all morning and hopefully we have the contents stored in the container in a way that we can get at what we need, when we need it.

I just wanted to explain who Newland's clinic is. They are currently treating about 2500 HIV/AIDS patients right now and have a waiting list of over 3000. They help with clothes and other things as well. We gave them: 10 boxes of newborn kits, 1/2 pallet of school kits, 36 boxes of hygiene kits, 4 boxes of single size quilts and 3 bales of youth clothing. We know that they will distribute them properly and that they will go where they are needed.

It is getting full

Done!!

ZIMRA (tax people)
While unloading the container these people showed up. They said they were driving by and made a U-turn to come back and check to make sure we had our paperwork stamped, etc., which we did. Pres. Neild showed them around and explained what goods we had and what they were for. They seemed happy enough with things!!

Notice the restraints

We just liked this sign!

Starting to burn the countryside

Better look both ways!! We have seen several of these signs.

Our Container

Can you believe it?? It is cleared through customs and is sitting at Glenn's transport over the weekend and will be delivered here Monday morning. I am tired. What a process it is. I will tell you about it.

7:45 a.m. Pres. Neild picked us up and we went to Zimra and had to pay $100 for documentation (papershuffling - according to Elder Bullock). Then off to Mediteranian (a shipping company) but they told us we had to go to the place where the container was by the railway and get a paper stamped and then come back.

9:45 a.m. We are at the shipping yard and cannot find the container anywhere. They sent us around to the back to check for it but it was not there either. However, it was suggested that we check with a different storage company - we called and sure enough they had it at BAK Storage. The railway had sent it to the wrong place. It had arrived there May 23rd.

10:30 Arrive at BAK Storage and WE FOUND IT!!!

Here comes our container

Getting closer

10:45 Off to Safmarine to get our paper stamped. They want $150 to stamp it but we managed to get 15% off and paid $120.

11:30 Go back to BAK Storage so we can open and check the container.

Elder Bullock & President Neild wondering if some might be missing

OOPS! We don't get it yet. They decide they want to inspect it. They start unloading the container onto the ground and open up a bag of shoes and dump it all out. Looks okay, I guess, as they then put them back in, tied up the bag and put it back on the pallet. Then they open a bundle of men's clothing. Pres. Neild managed to get them to just pull out a few things rather than dump it - it is bundled up very tight. We made the men happy by giving them each one thing (shirt of pants - although I noticed one guy got away with 3 things!!!).

First look with inspectors

Inspection of clothing bundle

Inspection of blanket

12:00 A guy from Glenn's transport showed up and it seems he managed to get them to NOT unload the whole container. Thank goodness for that. A box of school kits was torn open and we gave the lady inspector two of those for her two children. We want to keep these people happy!!!
So now everything is loaded back into the container and Glenn's Transport puts a lock on it. They will be back in about an hour with a transport truck to take it to their yard where they will keep it for free until Monday morning.

We think we are done BUT, no, not yet. They want $180 for the inspection that they ordered. According to our clearing guy, Taloni, that is a huge amount. They finally agreed to give us 10% off. What a bunch of crooks if you ask us!!!! Anyway, by 1:00 we have paid up and are on our way out of there. Hurray!!! Taloni, Pres. Neild's guy who does all the leg work to clear containers gets paid $200 - but I think he is probably worth it after what we went through today.

By the way, our power came back on this a.m. about 11:00 - according to Taylors. Hurray for that too!! Our freezer was needing it.

We are off to a meeting with a guy downtown (Leeds Trust). They are a NGO (non governement organization) that helps people. We might want to have them as a partner in the future.

Love to all, Elder & Sister Bullock
